Job summary

Standard Motor Products is seeking a seasoned precision machinist to join our toolroom in Greenville. The role focuses on manufacturing tooling, prototypes, fixtures, and production support equipment with tight tolerances.

You will interpret engineering drawings, set up CNC and manual machines, and troubleshoot tooling issues to improve quality and efficiency. Overtime may be required to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• Five or more years in a toolroom, mold shop, prototype shop, or equivalent precision machining environment.
• Associate degree or technical certification in Machine Tool Technology or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, fits, tolerances, surface finish requirements, materials, and heat treatment specs.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings to fabricate prototype parts, tooling, jigs, gages, fixtures, and production support equipment.
• Plan machining operations with minimal supervision and provide technical recommendations.
• Program, set up, troubleshoot, and operate CNC and manual machines including lathes, mills, grinders, saws.
• Diagnose tooling issues and recommend improvements to quality and efficiency.
• Verify components meet drawing specs through in-process and final inspection methods.
• Perform precision inspection using micrometers, height gages, bore gauges, and other gauges.
• Apply knowledge of materials, heat treatment, and machining processes to select manufacturing methods.
• Fit and assemble tooling, fixtures, and assemblies as required.
