Job summary

Antares is seeking a Senior Thermo-Mechanical Engineer for Integration of the Power Conversion System (PCS) in Torrance, CA. You will own heat transfer, thermal budget, and hardware life across the PCS, reactor, and safety systems, ensuring thermal performance and safe operation.

Responsibilities include designing heat rejection, insulation, instrumentation placement, and life‑cycle maintenance plans. The role requires hands‑on analysis, experience with high‑temperature cycles, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear, or related engineering.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience for senior level, including hardware design, build and test.
• Experience performing thermal analysis (hand calculations and/or FEA/CFD) to size or qualify hardware.
• Experience designing thermal management hardware for high-temperature systems (insulation, heat-loss budgets, thermal isolation).
• Experience sizing or integrating heat exchangers or heat rejection paths against real operating and ambient conditions.
• Experience correlating thermal predictions with test data and iterating designs accordingly.
• Experience owning thermal interfaces across multiple subsystems.
• Experience with thermal instrumentation selection, placement, and uncertainty.

Responsibilities

• Own thermal management and energy budget of the Power Conversion System and close the loop with cycle performance on parasitic losses.
• Develop heat rejection and cold-sink architecture, size and integrate recuperator and heat rejection against site and ambient conditions.
• Define thermal configuration including insulation, heat-loss budget, surface temperatures, instrumentation, and personnel protection.
• Manage thermal interfaces and transient requirements for major PCS components, reactor, and safety systems.
• Support test rig design and instrumentation placement; use data to improve component life and performance.
• Engineer components for high-temperature and high-stress service using advanced materials in partnership with materials/structural teams.
• Develop inspection and maintenance plans to manage risk on thermal-mechanically life-limited hardware.
