Job summary

Leidos Defense in Huntsville, AL seeks a Lead Thermal/Stress Analyst to design and analyze next-generation defense systems. You will perform stress and thermal analyses, build finite element models, and verify results with test data using FEMAP, NASTRAN, and CFD tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 4+ years of relevant industry experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 2+ years with a master’s degree.
• Direct experience performing stress and thermal analysis in the aerospace or defense industry.
• Experience with commercial FEA tools (FEMAP/NX NASTRAN, PATRAN/MSC NASTRAN, ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Proven ability with thermal analysis and CFD tools like STAR-CCM+, Thermal Desktop/SindaFluint, ANSYS, or SolidWorks FlowSimulation.
• Strong technical writing, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment and as part of a larger team or as sole analyst.
• U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for Final Secret Clearance.
• Residency in Huntsville, AL area or willingness to relocate to Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities

• Perform stress and thermal analysis on structural, electronic, and mechanical systems while supporting critical test activities.
• Produce models, perform calculations, reduce data, and correlate test results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Conduct detailed steady-state and transient thermal analyses using industry-standard programs.
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to meet performance, manufacturability, and schedule requirements.
• Operate in an in-office role with limited remote work as specified by the manager.
