Job summary

Last Energy, Inc. in Texas seeks a Thermal-Mechanical Engineer to design pressure-boundary hardware for a micro nuclear plant, translating thermal requirements into manufacturable components with hand calculations and first principles.

You will lead mechanical design of heat exchangers, piping networks, and pressure vessels, and perform thermal-structural analyses, driving manufacturability in a fast-paced startup culture.

Qualifications

• > BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• > 7+ years hands-on industry experience designing components under thermal and mechanical loading
• > Proficiency in 3D CAD software for mechanical design of thermal-mechanical components and assemblies
• > Proficiency in analysis software for structural and thermal stress analysis
• > Solid working knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and mechanical design principles
• > Experience with pressure vessel or piping design codes is a strong plus
• > Practical, hands-on approach with manufacturable, deployable designs
• > Excellent communication and collaboration in a cross-functional startup team

Responsibilities

• Lead conceptual design, analysis, and execution of thermal-mechanical components and systems for our advanced power plant
• Drive mechanical design of components subject to thermal loading
• Own design of heat exchangers, piping networks, fluid storage tanks, and other pressure-boundary equipment
• Perform thermal and structural analyses to validate designs against pressure, temperature, and cyclic loading
• Translate thermal performance requirements into manufacturable, deployable hardware
• Collaborate daily with multidisciplinary team to integrate thermal-mechanical solutions
• Support material selection, tolerancing, and design-for-manufacturing decisions
• Operate autonomously to drive projects from concept to design verification
