Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group is seeking a Senior Thermal Controls Engineer to develop, implement, optimize and test control algorithms for electric vehicle thermal systems. You will collaborate with controls, embedded, and integration engineers to deliver robust thermal management solutions.

You will design software in MATLAB/Simulink, own it through bench and vehicle testing, and drive model-based development, code generation, and validation in a fast-paced environment in the Phoenix area.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical or related).
• 2+ years of embedded controls software experience.
• Strong knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink.
• Direct experience in vehicle-level controls design for EVs/HEVs.
• Strong background in Model-Based design in MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience with auto-code generation in MATLAB/Simulink.
• Familiar with git version control.

Responsibilities

We are on the lookout for aSenior Thermal Controls Engineerthat will be responsible for the development, implementation, optimization, and testing of control algorithms to join our Thermal Controls team. You will work closely with controls engineers, embedded systems engineers, and controls integration engineers to develop control systems for electric vehicles, as well as engage in calibration and testing of the systems. You will have experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control software for vehicle’s thermal management systems in MATLAB/Simulink
• Take ownership of the software you develop through testing and validation, both on lab bench and in vehicle
• Work closely with embedded/integration/cross-functional engineers to implement, test, debug and calibrate thermal control algorithms, as well as support vehicle-development activities related to thermal-control functions
• Collaborate with the controls architect and modeling engineer to devise accurate control strategies for thermal management of battery, fuel cell, powertrain, cabin HVAC, and brake resistor
• Ensure the TMM controls schemes will meet thermal system requirements
• Develop vehicle level test requirements for validating the vehicle thermal management system (thermal control system DVP, pass/fail requirements, and detailed test plans)
• Provide guidance in controls development to other team members
• Work efficiently within a multidisciplinary and fast-paced environment

Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical or any closely related discipline)
• 2+ years of experience building embedded controls software
• Strong knowledge in MATLAB/Simulink
• Direct experience in vehicle-level controls design for electric or hybrid vehicles. (i.e., thermal management, battery management, charging systems, torque control, vehicle dynamics, body controls)
• Strong background in Model-Based system design in MATLAB/Simulink environment
• Knowledge in auto-code generation in MATLAB/Simulink environment
• Good understanding of system/component design/development processes
• Familiar with git version control

Preferred

• Familiarity with embedded control of thermal systems (i.e. pumps, fans, valves) and refrigeration systems (i.e. compressors, EXVs)
• Familiarity with tools such as Vector CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape
• Understanding of Microcontrollers/Microprocessors architectures
• Proficiency with CAN, LIN Communication Protocols
• Proficiency in C/C++/Python programming
