Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Analyst) to lead thermal analysis of spaceborne optical payloads. You will analyze thermal performance of mirrors, radiators, and cryogenic systems, and guide trades studies and design reviews.

You will lead small teams, collaborate across disciplines, prepare PDR/CDR sections, and support risk mitigation while enabling on-time program delivery and compliance with security requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in a STEM field; multiple years of relevant experience.
• Experience with thermal analysis in space environments and vacuum temperatures.
• Ability to lead small teams and collaborate across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Perform thermal analysis of precision optical payloads and cryogenic systems.
• Lead thermal analysis teams for IR payloads and mechanical subsystems.
• Author thermal analysis sections of PDRs, CDRs and design reviews.
• Support trade studies, schedules, costs, and technical leadership.
• Develop thermal test plans and fixture analyses for space environments.
• Contribute to risk assessment and mitigation for complex payloads.
• Collaborate across functions to minimize gaps in requirements and performance.
• Possess the ability to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.
