Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking a Sr. Engineer, Test Engineering and Automation in Frederick, MD to lead the development, integration, and automation of RF-centric test solutions. You will drive automated testing across hardware, firmware, software, and fixtures, while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with multiple engineering teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on lab work, test data analysis, and transitioning test methods from development to manufacturing in a fast-paced defense environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related STEM with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Proficient in automated test development and ATE environments.
• Proficient developing automated test software using Python.
• Hands-on experience with RF/electronic test instrumentation.
• Experience with Windows and Linux environments.
• Ability to lead and mentor engineers.
• Ability to work across hardware, firmware, software, and test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Develop test strategies, acceptance criteria, test plans, procedures, test cases, and test reports for complex RF-centric products and systems.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain automated test solutions and ATE.
• Develop automated test software using Python, LabVIEW, and other applicable environments.
• Architect and implement reusable test software, instrument-control capabilities, hardware abstraction, and common test frameworks.
• Interface with lab instrumentation including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes.
• Lead product and system integration, verification and validation, acceptance testing, and regression testing.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across hardware, firmware, software, instrumentation, fixtures, and test systems.
• Analyze test data to identify trends and failure mechanisms.
• Work with development teams to convert manual test methods into automated solutions.
• Develop and maintain requirements-to-test traceability and test artifacts.
• Support development and implementation of test fixtures and engineering test stations.
• Lead transition of test solutions from engineering to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with RF, Digital/FPGA, Embedded Software, Systems, Manufacturing, and Program teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency and maintainability through automation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring.
• Communicate test status and risks to leadership, customers, and stakeholders.
• Support estimates, proposals, planning, and execution of Test Engineering efforts.
