Job summary

Etched.ai in San Jose seeks a Test Design Engineer to own end-to-end testing strategy for AI hardware, spanning silicon bring-up to full rack production. You will design test systems and frameworks, define pass/fail criteria, and ensure tests catch defects at scale.

You will collaborate across firmware, system software, and hardware teams to build reliable, scalable tests, implement regression gating, analyze failures, and drive corrective actions.

Qualifications

• Owned the test strategy or test systems for a hardware product from bring-up to production.
• Hands-on testing across firmware, board, and system levels.
• Experience designing regression gating or CI for hardware and firmware.
• Strong debugging skills across hardware, firmware, and software.
• Clear communication across teams and explicit risk tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the overall test strategy and coverage map across silicon, firmware, board, server, and rack levels, from EVT/DVT/PVT validation through production.
• Design the test systems and frameworks that carry out that strategy: how tests are structured, versioned, gated, and run across the lab and the factory.
• Review test plans from domain teams at each build phase, identify coverage gaps and optimize test time.
• Build regression gating so firmware, drivers, and test packages are validated on representative hardware before shipping.
• Define pass/fail criteria, retest policies, and diagnostics, turning them into clear procedures with Production.
• Lead technical triage of failures that cross hardware, firmware, and software, reproduce issues, and drive corrective actions.
• Turn recurring failures into better tests and upstream screening and diagnostics.
• Partner with Test Infrastructure and manufacturing partners to bring the strategy into production, including travel to Taiwan.
