Job summary

Focus is seeking a Senior Test Software Engineer to lead quality engineering architecture and automation for civic tech infrastructure. You will architect scalable automated test suites, build robust CI workflows, and serve as a technical authority in a multi-vendor environment with many stakeholders.

You will collaborate with product managers, developers, and regulatory teams to evaluate requirements, assess risks, and drive defect prevention strategies across delivery streams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience writing and maintaining testing frameworks for full-stack applications.
• Experience testing complex systems with external services, databases, and APIs.
• Strong cross-functional agile collaboration and client communication.
• Diagnostics skills for troubleshooting distributed multi-vendor failures.
• Experience on federal government digital service projects or civic tech programs.

Responsibilities

• Establish software quality standards, test architecture guidelines, and defect prevention strategies across delivery streams.
• Architect, build, and maintain scalable end-to-end automated UI and API test suites using Playwright and TypeScript across product verticals.
• Partner with product managers, developers, and regulatory teams early to evaluate requirements and assess risks.
• Identify, log, and track defects end-to-end; drive root cause analysis and fixes with developers.
• Define top-level test strategies, write comprehensive test plans, and manage the full verification lifecycle.
• Validate unit tests with development or integration teams and assist in pair programming to verify code flows.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert in testing, providing feedback and best-practice advice.
