Job summary

Newcomb & Boyd, a multidiscipline MEP engineering firm in Atlanta, seeks a Senior Technology Designer to lead design and coordination of integrated building technology systems across healthcare, education, and commercial projects.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, client-focused, and capable of mentoring junior staff while managing multiple projects with QA/QC discipline and a commitment to staying at the forefront of building technologies.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Revit and construction documentation.
• Strong understanding of building technology systems and codes (NFPA, TIA, BICSI, IEEE).
• Experience designing large, complex building technology systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead technology design from inception to completion.
• Mentor junior designers and perform QA/QC on work.
• Coordinate with MEP teams, architects, clients, and contractors.
• Attend meetings to capture project requirements and provide tech guidance.
• Prepare 2D/3D construction docs in Revit; draft Division 27/28 specs.
• Perform contract administration including site visits and submittal reviews.
• Stay current on emerging building tech through vendor coordination.

Newcomb & Boyd, a multidiscipline MEP engineering consulting firm headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking an experienced Senior Technology Designer to lead the design and coordination of integrated building technology systems for a diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate is a technically strong and client-focused professional with expertise in designing sophisticated technology solutions, including structured cabling, electronic security, audiovisual, intelligent building, telecommunications, and nurse call systems.

This individual will serve as a project leader from concept through construction, collaborating closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal design teams to deliver innovative and reliable technology solutions. The successful candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong communication skills, a passion for mentoring junior staff, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality and technical excellence.

The ideal candidate is proficient in Revit and construction documentation, experienced in performing QA/QC reviews and construction administration activities, and committed to staying at the forefront of emerging building technologies and industry trends. Responsibilities

Design of complex technology systems including structured cabling, indoor and outside-plant pathways, electronic security systems, audiovisual systems, intelligent building systems, telecommunications grounding, nurse call, and other systems.

• Lead the technology design from project inception through completion.
• Mentor junior designers by providing guidance on the technical aspects of the design.Conduct QA/QC on the work of others.
• Coordinate and collaborate with our MEP teams, architectural clients, building owners, and construction managers.
• Attend meetings with clients and other stakeholders, and consult on technology systems to obtain project requirements.
• Prepare 2 and 3-dimensional construction documents using Revit, and prepare Division 27 and 28 specifications.
• Perform Contract Administration duties including site visits, submittal review, and contractor assistance.
• Remain current on emerging building technology systems through coordination with vendors and manufacturers, and attendance at conferences, seminars, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrates proficiency with Revit.
• Demonstrates a high-level understanding of building technology systems.
• Knowledge and adherence to applicable codes and standards (NFPA, TIA, BICSI, IEEE) and familiarity of related standards (AVIXA, ASIS).
• Ability to design and manage large, complex building technology systems.
• Possess a solid technical base with desire to learn, lead, and grow into a leadership position within the firm.
• Experience with Project management of various building types including healthcare, higher education, science and technology, workplace, and many others.
• Ability to prioritize effectively, have good follow-through, and practice self-implemented quality control measures.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate well in writing as well as verbally.
• Interpersonal communication skills with clients and project stakeholders to collaborate on projects and achieve consensus.
• Ability to travel as needed.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• RCDD required, or currently pursuing certification.
• Five or more years of direct experience independently designing and project managing large, complex building technology systems as a technology designer or technology consultant, including systems such as structured cabling, pathways, electronic security, audiovisual, intelligent building, or nurse call systems.
