Job summary

J&T Business Consulting seeks an experienced Technical Writer (Level 3) in Annapolis Junction, MD, to lead and maintain defense documentation. You will translate cryptologic and DoD system concepts into clear materials, guiding teams to DS-89 compliance and high-quality deliverables.

You will collaborate with engineers and SMEs, producing manuals, SOPs, and training materials, while overseeing documentation projects and enforcing standards.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline plus 8+ years of technical writing experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity, OR
• Master’s degree in a technical discipline plus at least 6 years of technical writing experience (Master's substituting for 2 years), OR
• 12 years of relevant technical writing experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).
• Demonstrated expertise authoring documentation in compliance with NSA Data Standard (DS)-89 and defense acquisition frameworks.
• Proven ability to document complex cryptologic systems, software development workflows, and engineering schematics.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio.

Responsibilities

• Author, edit, and maintain technical publications, SOPs, and training guides.
• Develop defense acquisition lifecycle documentation for DoD electronic systems and cryptologic platforms.
• Ensure all documentation adheres to NSA DS-89 standards.
• Gather technical data from engineering docs and subject matter experts.
• Interpret drawings and schematics to document software and system data.
• Lead documentation projects with multiple contributors and ensure consistent formatting.
• Perform peer reviews and quality assurance on deliverables.
• Maintain the program’s centralized internal documentation repository.
• Prepare high-level reports and briefing materials for diverse audiences.
