Job summary

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. in Ashburn, VA is seeking a Senior Specialist Technical Writer. You will develop, organize, and maintain high-quality technical documentation in compliance with S1000D and MIL-STD-24784, interpreting engineering data and collaborating with SMEs to ensure accuracy.

The role requires experience with Arbortext XML authoring, CSDB, and strong written communication. It is an onsite position with a sign-on bonus for externally hired candidates holding an active U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum 6 years of relevant experience or graduate degree with 4+ years; in lieu of a degree, 10 years of related experience.
• Active U.S. Secret security clearance.
• Proficient in S1000D, MIL-STD-24784, and program-specific requirements.
• Experience with XML-based documentation and structured data.
• Experience with CSDB/content management and publication frameworks.
• Excellent written communication and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Develop, organize, and maintain high-quality technical documentation per S1000D and MIL-STD-24784.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and input from SMEs.
• Create and maintain XML-based documents using S1000D tools like Arbortext.
• Ensure compliance with standards, style guides, and project formatting rules.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, logistics, and project teams to validate content accuracy.
• Perform detailed quality reviews for structure, clarity, and controlled language compliance.
• Support integration of S1000D content within CSDB and maintain style guides.
