The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join our DHS Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) team supporting the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The role involves leading content creation, technical documentation, and reporting, working closely with stakeholders and SMEs to support federal cybersecurity operations. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of cloud, cybersecurity, and IT environments, with the ability to simplify complex technical information for diverse audiences, including executives.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead the creation of technical documentation such as system design descriptions, SOPs, and user guides.
2. Collaborate with stakeholders, engineers, and SMEs to gather information and produce accurate documentation.
3. Manage documentation schedules aligned with project milestones and compliance deadlines.
4. Develop briefing materials, dashboards, and reports for USCG and DHS leadership.
5. Translate complex cybersecurity and cloud concepts into clear formats for various audiences.
6. Oversee version control and publishing of technical content using standard platforms.
7. Ensure content accuracy, consistency, and compliance with federal standards and IL4/IL5 requirements.
8. Work with cross-functional teams to align content with operational goals.
9. Support quality assurance and peer review processes.
10. Maintain repositories and templates for reusable documentation.
11. Create onboarding and training materials for staff orientation.
12. Assist in maintaining Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) documentation.

Qualifications:

Required:

• At least 5 years of experience in producing technical documentation in a federal IT or cybersecurity setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience supporting IL4/IL5 or FedRAMP environments.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies (Azure, AWS), cybersecurity principles, DevOps, and IT operations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration tools like SharePoint and Teams.
• Strong communication, research, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to build effective relationships with teams and SMEs.
• Favorable Tier 1 background investigation (SF-85 through DCMS SECCEN).

Desired:

• Experience with DHS, USCG, DoD, or other government agencies.
• Familiarity with Agile or SAFe methodologies.
• SharePoint administration skills.
• Experience with style guides, automation tools, or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Cybersecurity or cloud certifications such as Security+, CCSP, AZ-900, or AWS Cloud Practitioner.

Pay Range: The salary range varies based on factors like location, experience, skills, and certifications. We offer competitive benefits including healthcare, wellness, retirement, education, and time off. The proposed range for this position is: $67,100 - $141,000.

Since this position can be located in multiple areas, the salary range provided is an average.
