About Our Client
Our client is a premier, fourth-generation construction company based in Los Angeles specializing in masonry, concrete, hardscape, and complex civil and structural hillside projects across residential and commercial sectors. Known for exceptional craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, and dependable execution, they build for an increasingly sophisticated clientele. To support their continued growth and increasingly complex project portfolio, they are expanding their senior production leadership.
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to take full ownership of their most complex execution work and serve as the technical center of gravity for the production department.
This is a plug-and-play senior role. You will assume control of high-end, high-value residential design-build projects—including civil and structural hillside work, concrete, masonry, and hardscapes—and will be trusted to resolve technical details and deliver projects with minimal oversight. You will pair deep technical expertise with complete ownership across the active job portfolio. You’ll review sold jobs, close technical gaps from sales handoffs, and make critical decisions that keep projects buildable, on schedule, and on margin. Additionally, you will serve as the primary, credible technical voice for highly knowledgeable clients while building the systems, processes, and training materials needed to scale the broader team.
You will report directly to the Production Lead and work side-by-side with ownership and sales.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Ownership of Complex Projects
- Own technical execution of complex, high-end projects ($500,000+ hillside and civil jobs) from sales handoff to final sign-off.
- Review sales handoffs, site photos, videos, and plan sets to eliminate technical gaps prior to mobilization (confirming wall locations, heights, slopes, drainage paths, riprap, culverts, board layouts, and material specs).
- Identify and resolve constructability and drainage issues early alongside clients, engineers, and sales teams.
- Set and maintain technical build standards (stucco systems, corner details, waterproofing, structural concrete/masonry, retaining walls, hardscape bases, borders, and sealants).
- Coordinate with geotechnical, structural, and civil engineers, inspectors, and permit expediters to ensure alignment between plans, field execution, and inspections.
- Lead all client communications across the project lifecycle, providing a high-touch, proactive concierge experience.
- Conduct initial welcome calls and lead pre-construction walkthroughs to set expectations and establish strong relationships from day one.
- Deliver regular, structured project updates at key milestones and conduct follow-up check-ins after subcontractor visits.
- Serve as a confident, accurate technical point of contact, resolving client issues directly and escalating to the Production Lead only when ownership-level decisions are required.
- Manage progression across all active jobs, ensuring every project has a clear next step, defined schedule, and assigned task owners.
- Drive job sequencing, staging, and resource allocation to maintain schedule momentum and protect job margins.
- Proactively identify and surface stalled jobs, resource shortages, or technical/timeline risks to the Production Lead before they impact clients.
- Maintain real-time project status tracking in the project management system and support the rollout and adoption of updated CRM and field management tools.
- Protect gross margins by ensuring subcontractor buyouts are finalized well in advance of job start dates per pre-construction protocols.
4. Cross-Team Alignment
- Act as the core connection point between Sales, Production, Clients, and Subcontractors.
- Partner with Sales on job handoffs, flagging missing details early to continuously improve scoping accuracy.
- Ensure complete pre-job due diligence, timely billing/invoicing, and subcontractor schedule adherence.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for subcontractor friction, upholding company standards firmly and professionally.
5. Subcontractor Coordination & Technical Oversight
- Define clear expectations, timelines, access rules, and technical scopes for subcontractors prior to site arrival.
- Enforce quality control by verifying field execution against plans, engineering specifications, and company quality benchmarks.
- Coordinate pre-bid pricing for complex sales proposals to ensure accurate estimating and margin protection.
6. Systems, Processes & Team Development
- Help build and refine sales-to-production handoff workflows, including job complexity classifications (simple, medium, hard, complicated).
- Develop standard details, checklists, specifications, and training resources to elevate overall field execution.
- Mentor and train Project Coordinators and Field Leads to build internal technical depth.
- Participate in weekly sales and production meetings to drive clear action items, accountability, and follow-through.
7. Field Presence
- Conduct onsite visits for critical walkthroughs, pre-construction meetings, client milestones, inspections, and complex technical escalations.
- Make authoritative, informed field decisions independently to resolve challenges on-site.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Industry Background: Minimum 15 years of hands-on experience in concrete, hillside, hardscape, and masonry work, with extensive experience in residential design-build (commercial-only experience will not qualify).
- Technical Mastery: Deep functional knowledge of civil work (drainage, grading, excavation) and structural hillside construction (slope stability, retaining walls, pipe & board, V-ditches, sumps, CMU, brick/stone masonry, stucco, waterproofing, structural concrete, and pavers).
- Plan & Engineering Proficiency: Expert ability to read and interpret structural, civil, and architectural drawings, as well as geotechnical reports.

- Client Engagement: Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with experience managing detail-oriented, high-end residential clients.
- Systems Mindset: Tech-savvy and comfortable utilizing modern CRMs, project management software, checklists, and structured handoff processes.
- Location: Must reside in the Greater Los Angeles area with the ability to travel regularly to field sites.
