Job summary

Theatre Aspen in Aspen, Colorado, is seeking a full-time Technical Director/Production Manager to oversee the technical execution, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of our production facilities, scenic operations, and venues.

This role combines hands-on leadership during load-ins and events with administrative budgeting, staffing, and planning for our summer and year-round programs, including education projects.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of professional Technical Direction or Production Management experience.
• Extensive knowledge of scenic construction, rigging, and theatrical systems.
• Experience managing production budgets, cost analysis, and vendor negotiations.
• Experience reading technical drawings and collaborating with designers and scenic fabricators.

Responsibilities

• Production Leadership & Design Collaboration: review designs for feasibility, organize production meetings, lead bid process, maintain specifications.
• MainStage Production Execution: lead load-ins, rehearsals, changeovers and strikes; supervise all production departments to ensure safety and union compliance.
• Education Production & Scenic Construction: lead scenic builds for education programming with full ownership.
• Tent Theatre & Site Stewardship: maintain stage, rigging, and infrastructure; schedule tent activities and manage inventory.
• Safety & Emergency Preparedness: lead safety orientations, OSHA compliance, and emergency planning.
• Budget, Vendor & Equipment Management: develop budgets, manage vendors, and maintain equipment inventories.
• Staffing, Recruitment & Mentorship: recruit and mentor seasonal staff and crews; foster inclusive environment.
• Community Partnerships & Future Campus Planning: collaborate on permanent campus planning and community partnerships.
