Job summary

M.M.LaFleur in New York City is seeking an experienced Technical Designer to own the fit and technical design process from tech pack creation to final production approval. You will collaborate with Design, Product Development, production and merchandising to ensure consistency with brand standards.

The role requires leading fittings, building tech packs, and communicating with overseas factories. A strong background in tailoring, pattern knowledge, grading, and construction is essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in technical design with strong tailoring experience.
• Extensive experience leading fittings.
• Strong fabric knowledge with design recommendations.
• Experience communicating with overseas factories.
• Experience with knitwear is a plus.
• Hands-on pattern knowledge (draping/flat pattern a plus).
• Strong grading and construction knowledge.
• Versatile and able to contribute across all technical design tasks.

Responsibilities

• Spec all sample stages (Protos, PP, TOP) ensuring measurements align with brand standards.
• Lead fittings: cut and pin garments, direct real-time adjustments, and consult on construction methods.
• Review and mark up patterns with factories to resolve fit issues.
• Complete detailed fit notes after every fitting and update tech packs with post-fitting measurements.
• Build tech packs from scratch for new styles, focusing on construction details and target spec.
• Drive fit standardization initiatives and serve as final fit consultation.
