Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Technical Design, Garment Technical Design, or a related apparel technical role.
• Strong knowledge of women's apparel construction, fit, patternmaking, grading, and garment manufacturing.
• Experience working with overseas factories and vendors.
• Ability to read and understand patterns and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Manage the technical development and fit process from initial development through production.
• Review and approve patterns, first samples, PPS, and production samples.
• Conduct fittings and provide clear, accurate fit comments.
• Review garment measurements, construction, grading, balance, proportions, and overall fit.
• Identify and resolve complex fit, pattern, and construction issues.
• Work closely with Design, Production, Sourcing, Pattern, and Quality Control teams.
• Communicate technical comments and corrections clearly to overseas factories and vendors.
• Review and maintain accurate Tech Packs, measurement specifications, BOMs, construction details, and grading requirements.
• Work with factories to improve garment quality, construction, efficiency, and production readiness.
• Review and provide guidance on fabric, trims, lining, print placement, garment construction, and sewing techniques.
• Partner with factories to resolve production issues and ensure approved fit and construction are maintained during bulk production.
• Train and mentor Technical Designers / overseas TD teams.

Position: Senior Garment Technical Designer

Location: New York

Reports To: Director

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Garment Technical Designer to join our Technical Design team. This position is responsible for managing garment fit, construction, measurements, specifications, and technical development from initial development through production.

The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of women's apparel, excellent fitting skills, pattern/construction understanding, and experience working directly with overseas factories and vendors. The Senior TD will also help establish technical standards, solve complex fit and construction issues, and support the development and training of the TD team.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Technical Design, Garment Technical Design, or a related apparel technical role.
• Strong knowledge of women's apparel construction, fit, patternmaking, grading, and garment manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of woven and knit garments.
• Extensive experience with fittings and fit comments.
• Ability to identify the root cause of fit issues and communicate the appropriate pattern or construction corrections.
• Strong knowledge of garment measurements, specifications, tolerances, and grading.
• Experience working with overseas factories and vendors.
• Strong understanding of the complete product development process from development through production.
• Ability to read and understand patterns and technical specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with women's dresses, skirts, blouses, and other fashion apparel.
• Experience working with overseas factories, particularly in Asia.
• Strong understanding of costing, fabric consumption, and production efficiency.

This person should be comfortable challenging a factory when necessary, providing practical solutions, and balancing fit, quality, construction, cost, and production timing.

The Senior TD should also be able to mentor other TDs and help develop a strong, consistent technical design process across the organization.
