Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin, located at the Pickle Research Campus, seeks a Technical Staff Assistant IV for the Center for Transportation Research in the Cockrell School of Engineering. This 40-hour, non-exempt role supports structural engineering research and safe fabrication of experiments.

Starting immediately, the position requires constructing test setups, operating heavy equipment, and supervising student researchers to ensure safe workspace.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED.
• Four years of experience in construction related fields, maintenance of equipment or apparatus of the type related to the position.
• Vocational training in a related field is desirable.
• Skill in the use of metal and/or woodworking fabrication equipment is desirable.
• Experience with light welding, light electronics, hydraulics, and heavy equipment operation is desirable.
• Willingness to learn if training is lacking.

Responsibilities

• Heavy equipment operation (forklift/overhead crane).
• Fabrication and construction of test setups/specimens.
• Assist with electronics and hydraulic configuration.
• Direct supervision of student researchers to promote and instruct safe working space.
