Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor to provide strategic and technical leadership across complex water, wastewater, pumping, and conveyance infrastructure programs. You will guide engineering decisions, support major pursuits, mentor professionals, and help shape engineering standards.

You will work with practice leaders, project teams, and clients to advance technical excellence, governance, and safe, reliable project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer licensure required or ability to practice in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Extensive experience leading municipal water, wastewater, pumping, conveyance, and treatment projects.
  • Proven expertise in pump stations, hydraulic systems, process mechanical design, commissioning, or rehab.
  • Demonstrated success as a senior technical advisor on multidisciplinary programs.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, quality systems, governance, and design reviews.
  • Experience supporting pursuits, proposals, and client-facing engagements.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and foster technical excellence.

Job description

This is an opportunity to serve as a trusted technical authority across some of North America's most complex water, wastewater, pumping, conveyance, and treatment infrastructure programs. As a Senior Technical Advisor, you will provide strategic and technical leadership to project teams, support major pursuits and client engagements, strengthen technical excellence across the practice, and help shape the future of WSP's Water and Wastewater business. Working closely with practice leaders, strategic leads, project managers, technical specialists, and clients, you will guide critical engineering decisions, support business growth initiatives, advance technical standards, and mentor the next generation of engineering professionals.

Your Impact
  • Provide senior technical leadership and subject matter expertise for complex water, wastewater, pumping, conveyance, treatment, and process mechanical projects.
  • Advise project teams throughout planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational optimization.
  • Support strategic pursuits through participation in client meetings, technical presentations, proposal development, capture planning, and project interviews.
  • Collaborate with regional leadership to identify client needs, shape technical solutions, and strengthen relationships with utilities, municipalities, authorities, and key industry stakeholders.
  • Grow strategic Water/Wastewater clients in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
  • Serve as a senior technical reviewer for critical project milestones, helping improve quality, reduce risk, and enhance project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering standards, technical guidance documents, specifications, quality processes, and best practices across the organization.
  • Promote technical excellence through design reviews, lessons learned, knowledge sharing, and technical governance initiatives.
  • Provide expertise in pumping systems, hydraulic design, process mechanical systems, treatment facilities, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational reliability.
  • Mentor engineers, project managers, and technical specialists, supporting capability development and succession planning across the practice.
  • Support talent attraction and technical network development through industry engagement, professional relationships, recruiting support, and knowledge sharing.
  • Champion safety, quality, sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout project delivery and client service.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer designation and ability to practice within applicable jurisdictions.
  • Extensive experience supporting major municipal water, wastewater, pumping, conveyance, treatment, and process mechanical infrastructure projects.
  • Recognized technical expertise in one or more areas including pump stations, treatment facilities, hydraulic systems, process mechanical design, commissioning, troubleshooting, or infrastructure rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrated success serving as a senior technical advisor on complex multidisciplinary engineering programs.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, technical specifications, quality management systems, technical governance, and design review processes.
  • Experience supporting major pursuits, proposal development, technical presentations, and client-facing engagements.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Established professional relationships within the water and wastewater industry and a demonstrated ability to build trusted client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into practical, implementable solutions.

  • Major municipal water and wastewater utilities.
  • Large pumping stations, force mains, conveyance systems, and hydraulic structures.
  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Hydraulic modeling, system optimization, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Commissioning, startup, and performance testing.
  • Development of engineering standards, specifications, and technical best practices.
  • Identification of market growth areas in the Water/Wastewater
  • Participation in industry organizations, technical committees, and professional associations.
  • Technical leadership for major proposals, client interviews, and strategic pursuits.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $168,900 - $323,300

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
