Job summary

Firefly Aerospace in Austin, Texas is seeking a Senior, Technical Accounting and Reporting to join our dynamic accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to manage full-cycle GL, apply US GAAP, and contribute to financial reporting for a fast-growing space company.

You will work under the Director of Accounting, perform technical accounting research, support external audits, develop internal controls, and partner with FP&A and business units to ensure accurate and timely financial

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience, with public company exposure.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Experience performing technical accounting research and applying concepts to complex transactions.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff and manage time effectively.
  • Experience with external audits and documentation for public company reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations and financial analyses; maintain policies and procedures.
  • Research and apply accounting standards to revenue, leases, stock-based compensation, and complex transactions.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and external audit readiness; provide variance analyses.
  • Develop and improve internal controls over financial reporting in collaboration with FP&A and business units.

SUMMARY

Firefly is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior, Technical Accounting and Reporting to join our dynamic accounting team. This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage a diverse accounting skill set, encompassing full-cycle GL management, technical accounting, and financial reporting. This role will report to the Director of Accounting.

Responsibilities:

General Ledger Management:

  • Assist with overseeing and managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Establish, maintain and improve accounting policies and procedures.

Technical Accounting:

  • Research and apply relevant accounting standards to revenue recognition, lease accounting, stock-based compensation, and complex transactions.
  • Document and implement new accounting pronouncements.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial reporting to management and stakeholders.
  • Provide insightful variance analyses and financial commentary.
  • Assist in the budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Support the external audit process.

Internal Controls:

  • Assist with developing, maintaining, and improving internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Support the company’s preparation for internal controls audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with FP&A and non-finance business units to establish and improve processes, and ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Other Duties:

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Support special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience, with public accounting and/or public company experience.
  • Proven track record of working with business-facing (i.e., non-finance) personnel to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Familiarity with public company reporting, documentation and audit requirements.
  • Experience performing technical accounting research and applying such concepts to complex transactions and fact patterns.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, and internal control over financial reporting.
  • Strong time management, as well as personnel mentoring and development skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public accounting (particularly Big 4 accounting firm) experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing industry accounting.
  • Masters degree in accounting or related business field.
