Job summary

Firefly Aerospace in Austin, TX seeks a Cost Accountant Manager to lead manufacturing cost accounting, month-end close, and inventory management. You will own ERP processes, collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering, and drive cost improvements across the organization.

The role requires 5+ years in accounting preferably in manufacturing or R&D, a bachelor’s in accounting/finance, and strong analytical skills with excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience in Accounting preferably in a manufacturing and/or R&D environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance related field.
  • Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations process and manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to effectively analyze transactional level detail in an ERP system and articulate findings to management.
  • Strong business skills with understanding of financial, distribution and manufacturing systems.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, problem-solving skills and business acumen.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent project and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure within short time constraints and in a high growth organization.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all manufacturing cost accounting activities: month end close, maintaining accurate costs, labor & overhead absorption, inventory management, freight and duty tracking and monitoring.
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders cross-functionally (Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering) to understand processes, drivers, costs and revenue.
  • Drive operational improvements to improve profitability by managing labor & overhead burden.
  • Collaborate with inventory control and internal audit to monitor cycle count and inventory accuracy.
  • Perform variance analysis such as purchase price to cost variances and work order variances.
  • Ensure ERP validity and accuracy; own ERP process enhancements and scale the system for new processes.
  • Partner with FP&A and Engineering to model cost drivers and BOM accuracy and cost-reduction impact.
  • Build relations with business partners and accounting peers; prepare schedules for internal/external reporting.
  • Support monthly budget vs actual analysis; assist audit and SOX compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and act as trusted advisor to business partners.

SUMMARY

We are looking for dynamic individual with exceptional attention to detail. The Cost Accountant Manager’s primary responsibility is to lead the cost and inventory functions within the Accounting Team. They will provide significant input into month end close and budget processes as well as supporting business decision making and other accounting processes. They will monitor inventory counting. This position is critical to the growth of our company.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for all manufacturing cost accounting related activities: month end close, maintaining accurate costs, labor & overhead absorption, inventory management, freight and duty tracking and monitoring.
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders cross-functionally (Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering) to develop deep understanding of processes, business drivers, costs and revenue
  • Drive operational improvements and efficiencies on labor & overhead burden to improve business profitability.
  • Work with inventory control team and internal audit team to monitor, track and improve the cycle count process and inventory accuracy.
  • Perform variance analysis such as purchase price to cost variance, cost revaluation, invoice to PO price variances and work order variances.
  • Ensure validity and accuracy of ERP through analysis, internal audit, and coordination with inventory control, production and work order processing. Own ERP process enhancements and continue to scale the system to meet new processes and requirements
  • Collaborate with the FP&A team to identify cost drivers and develop models as the basis for forward looking plans and forecasts. Partner with Engineering teams to ensure Bill of Material accuracy including knowledge of cost reduction impact on financials
  • Establish and maintain relationships with business partners and accounting peers to address information reporting needs. Prepare accounting schedules routinely and as requested for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Provide support to the monthly budget vs actual analysis
  • Support audit and SOX compliance as requested
  • Protect the organization’s value by maintaining confidentiality

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • 5+ years of work experience in Accounting preferably in a manufacturing and/or R&D environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance related field
  • Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations process and manufacturing principles
  • Ability to effectively analyze transactional level detail in an enterprise resource planning system and articulate the key findings to management
  • Strong business skills and effective understanding of financial, distribution and manufacturing systems
  • Excellent analytical abilities, problem-solving skills and business acumen
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent project and time management abilities
