Job summary

Iowa Department of Revenue is seeking a Revenue Service Specialist 3 to join the Taxpayer Services team in Des Moines. This role supports taxpayers across multiple tax types and advances department projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field plus 3 years of full-time work in tax, accounting, or related areas.
• Alternative: 3 years experience in tax/finance plus 4 years education/experience with 30 credits per year equals one year.
• Seniority path includes progression from Taxpayer Service Specialist 1 to Revenue Service Specialist 2/3 or similar roles.

Responsibilities

• Assist taxpayers with general to complex tax questions across multiple tax types via phone, in person, or other channels, guiding to resources.
• Resolve escalated tax-related inquiries with informed judgment for accurate conclusions.
• Mentor and train staff, supporting workload balancing and QA checks.
• Participate in drafting/reviewing tax forms, instructions, and Department publications as part of projects.
• Work 100% in-office at the Hoover Building in Des Moines.
