Job summary

Smart4 Energy, a Jacksonville-based tax advisory firm, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant / Tax Preparer to join its hands-on practice. The role focuses on preparing returns for individuals and businesses, with direct client engagement and ownership of engagements from start to finish.

The ideal candidate enjoys technical tax work, can operate independently, and will collaborate with an experienced team. Remote options within the U.S.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing individual and business tax returns in a professional setting.
• Strong knowledge of Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120; Form 990 desirable.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
• Solid understanding of federal tax compliance.

Responsibilities

• Independently prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and nonprofits.
• Prepare returns including Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, and 990 as applicable.
• Work directly with clients to obtain tax documentation and resolve questions.
• Review financial data and schedules to ensure accurate returns.
• Navigate QuickBooks Online/Desktop to access financial information and adjust records.
• Prepare and post journal entries and adjustments as needed.
• Identify missing information and potential tax issues.
• Manage tax engagements with accuracy and timely completion.
• Communicate deadlines and requirements with clients and team.
• Assist with handover of existing client responsibilities.
