Job description

Salary Range: $180,000 - $220,000 + bonus potential

Heritage Wealth Advisors is seeking an experienced tax professional to join our growing tax practice within an integrated wealth management and family office environment.

This role goes beyond tax compliance. You will oversee complex tax work for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients while partnering closely with wealth advisors, financial planning professionals, investment teams, clients, and outside advisors to identify proactive tax strategies that support each client’s broader financial and estate planning objectives.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys both the complexity of tax and the opportunity to work directly with clients, and who wants to help shape the continued development of an integrated tax practice.

The Work
  • Lead complex tax compliance, overseeing the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, and closely held businesses.
  • Drive proactive tax planning, identifying strategies related to income taxes, capital gains, charitable giving, business ownership, trusts and estates, and multistate taxation.
  • Connect tax planning to the broader wealth picture, partnering with wealth advisors, financial planning professionals, and investment teams to integrate tax considerations into clients' financial, investment, estate, and charitable strategies.
  • Serve as a trusted tax resource, providing technical guidance to advisors and colleagues and translating complex tax matters into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Work directly with clients and their advisors, developing an understanding of each client's financial circumstances and collaborating with outside CPAs, attorneys, and other professionals when appropriate.
  • Manage the tax planning cycle, including tax projections, estimated payments, extensions, compliance calendars, and other client deliverables.
  • Ensure technical quality, reviewing tax returns, workpapers, projections, estimates, and related analyses for accuracy and sound technical judgment.
  • Stay ahead of tax developments, researching complex federal and state matters and evaluating legislative and regulatory changes that may affect clients.
  • Develop people and processes, mentoring tax professionals and helping establish consistent standards, workflows, and best practices across the tax practice.
  • Help build the tax practice, contributing to the continued development of Heritage's tax capabilities, client experience, and collaboration across the firm.
The Tax Professional We're Looking For
  • You are technically strong, with deep knowledge of complex individual and fiduciary taxation and the judgment to navigate sophisticated tax matters.
  • You think beyond compliance, looking for opportunities to turn tax information into proactive planning strategies that support a client's broader goals.
  • You communicate with clarity, translating technical tax concepts into practical guidance for clients, advisors, and colleagues.
  • You are comfortable with both complexity and relationships, equally at home reviewing detailed tax work and having thoughtful conversations with clients and their professional advisors.
  • You see the whole picture, understanding how tax intersects with investments, estate planning, charitable planning, business ownership, and multigenerational wealth.
  • You collaborate naturally, contributing your expertise while working closely with professionals across tax, planning, investment management, wealth advisory, and client service.
  • You want to help build, bringing initiative, sound judgment, and an interest in strengthening the tax practice, team, processes, and client experience.
Qualifications
  • Significant relevant experience in public accounting, a multi-family office, wealth management firm, family office, or another environment serving high-net-worth clients.
  • Strong experience with complex individual, trust, estate, partnership, and related taxation.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing tax returns, projections, estimated payments, and supporting workpapers.
  • Experience developing and advising on proactive tax planning strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation and the ability to research and evaluate complex tax matters.
  • Experience working directly with high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth clients and their professional advisors.
  • Strong technical judgment, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex client relationships, priorities, and deadlines.
  • For consideration at the Tax Director level, demonstrated experience leading people, client relationships, and/or the strategic development of a tax practice or function.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $180,000 - $220,000, based on experience, capabilities, and level, with additional bonus potential.

Heritage also offers:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with profit sharing.
  • Financial support for professional development, certifications, continuing education, and leadership development.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
  • A flexible and supportive work environment.
  • Parental and family leave.
  • Access to Heritage resources, internal expertise, professional networks, and thought leadership opportunities.
