Senior Tax Manager
Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead complex tax compliance, planning, and advisory engagements while delivering exceptional client service and driving team performance. This role serves as a key leader within the tax department, providing advanced technical expertise, managing high-level client relationships, overseeing multiple engagements, and contributing to overall business growth and profitability.

The Senior Tax Manager will work across a diverse range of tax matters and entity types, providing practical, technically sound recommendations while identifying opportunities to improve processes, expand client services, and develop team talent. The ideal candidate combines strong technical tax knowledge with excellent leadership, communication, relationship management, and business development skills.

Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance, Planning & Advisory
  • Lead complex federal, state, and specialty tax compliance, planning, and advisory engagements.
  • Review and oversee individual, corporate, partnership, trust, gift, and estate tax returns.
  • Serve as a technical resource on complex tax matters, providing guidance to clients and internal teams.
  • Develop and review advanced tax planning strategies, projections, and research.
  • Translate complex tax analysis and research into clear, practical, and actionable recommendations.
  • Apply tax laws, regulatory requirements, and professional standards to develop compliant solutions while identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Respond to tax audits, inquiries, notices, and other matters from taxing authorities, representing clients as appropriate.
  • Stay current on changes in tax legislation, regulations, and industry developments.
Client Relationship Management
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for key clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships through responsive and proactive service.
  • Communicate complex tax concepts and recommendations clearly to clients, executives, internal teams, and taxing authorities.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance client service and provide proactive, value-added tax and business insights.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses, industries, financial objectives, and tax needs.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services and deepen relationships within existing client accounts.
Engagement & Practice Management
  • Oversee engagements from initial planning through final delivery, ensuring quality, timeliness, scope, and profitability.
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Establish engagement budgets, timelines, deliverables, and staffing requirements.
  • Monitor realization, utilization, workflow, and other engagement performance metrics.
  • Identify engagement risks, address issues proactively, and elevate matters when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to improve tax processes, workflows, policies, and operational efficiencies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new tax services and enhancements to existing offerings.
Business Development & Growth
  • Support business development initiatives and contribute to the growth of the tax practice.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships.
  • Participate in proposals, client pursuits, presentations, and growth strategies.
  • Develop market and industry knowledge to identify emerging tax and advisory opportunities.
  • Participate in networking, marketing, and relationship-building activities.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships that contribute to the firm’s long-term growth.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Mentor, coach, and develop tax professionals at various levels.
  • Provide timely feedback, guidance, and career development support.
  • Review team members’ work for accuracy, technical quality, and completeness.
  • Identify training opportunities and contribute to formal and informal learning initiatives.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts.

Essential Qualifications
