A well established CPA and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager / Senior Manager to join its Grand Rapids office.
This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed CPA with strong public accounting tax experience who is ready to take on complex engagements, provide high level tax planning and research services, and play an important role in client relationships and practice development.
The successful candidate will oversee tax engagements from planning through completion, review complex tax returns and financial statements, provide guidance to staff, and work closely with Senior Managers and Principals to deliver high quality client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise complex and larger tax engagements.
- Manage engagement workflows, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Oversee the preparation and review of complex federal and state tax returns.
- Provide tax research, planning, and advisory services to clients.
- Prepare and review financial statements and other client deliverables within areas of expertise.
- Review reports, statements, tax returns, and related work prepared by staff.
- Review workpapers, financial statements, and tax returns before submission to Senior Managers or Principals for final review.
- Plan engagements effectively to achieve quality objectives while managing budgets and timelines.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members throughout engagements.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams, both verbally and in writing.
- Develop strong client relationships and identify opportunities to provide additional services.
- Participate in an active business development and practice development program.
- Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work performed.
- Collaborate respectfully and effectively with colleagues across the Tax department.
- Stay current with tax regulations, accounting systems, technology, and professional developments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Active CPA license required.
- 4 to 7 or more years of tax experience in public accounting or a related environment.
- Strong experience managing and reviewing complex tax engagements.
- Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
- Strong financial analysis and problem solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities.
- Mature, flexible, professional, and client focused approach.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
- Strong interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business development.
