What you will do :

The Senior Tax Associate will be a key addition to the Finance Organization as eXp continues its rapid global expansion. The role involves supporting 1099 reporting, indirect tax accruals, compliance, and liaising with tax agencies. Responsibilities include reconciliation of indirect tax liabilities, research and management of revenue recognition, state indirect tax issues, and audits. The Senior Tax Associate will collaborate with the US Tax Team, outside advisors, and service providers to manage multi-state indirect tax planning issues such as revenue recognition, nexus, tax registrations, product taxability, exemption certificates, etc.

• Assist with 1099 reporting, revenue recognition research, and handling agent inquiries related to revenue recognition and indirect tax implications.
• Prepare, review, and file indirect tax returns for eXp and subsidiaries, including sales tax, use tax, excise, B&O, and gross receipts taxes.
• Research, calculate taxes on AP invoices and real estate commissions.
• Prepare and process sales and use tax accounting processes, including payment requests, journal entries, account reconciliations, and inquiries.
• Assist on special projects, research, and implement law changes related to 1099 reporting, indirect taxes, and business licenses.
• Support day-to-day tax department responsibilities related to State and Local tax matters, including notices, journal entries, and data gathering.
• Identify and implement process improvements for tax processes.
• Assist with direct tax compliance and other special projects as needed.
• Maintain technical knowledge in relevant tax areas.

How you will grab our attention :

• Understanding of state sales/use tax fundamentals, such as nexus and SaaS taxability.
• Experience with enterprise software like Oracle Cloud, Vertex Cloud, Vertex Returns, etc.
• Knowledge of research databases.
• Experience with 1099 compliance, including handling B Notices.
• Experience developing and booking journal entries.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite tools.
• Strong math aptitude and computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Capacity to manage competing priorities under pressure.
• Ability to leverage technology for accuracy and efficiency.
• Demonstrated skills in process improvement.
