What you will do

The Senior Tax Associate will be a key addition to the Finance Organization as eXp continues its rapid global expansion. This role requires a highly motivated and experienced tax professional. Responsibilities include supporting 1099 reporting, indirect tax accruals and compliance, communicating with tax agencies, reconciling indirect tax liabilities, researching revenue recognition, and managing state indirect tax issues and audits. The Senior Tax Associate will collaborate closely with the US Tax Team and outside tax advisors to manage multi-state indirect tax planning issues such as revenue recognition, nexus, tax registrations, product taxability, exemption certificates, etc.

• Assist with 1099 reporting, revenue recognition research, and handle agent inquiries related to revenue recognition and indirect tax implications.
• Prepare, review, and file indirect tax returns for eXp and its subsidiaries, including sales tax, use tax, excise, B&O, and gross receipts taxes.
• Research and calculate taxes on AP invoices and real estate commissions.
• Manage sales and use tax accounting processes, including payment requests, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Support special projects, research law changes affecting 1099 reporting, indirect taxes, and business licenses.
• Handle daily operational tax responsibilities related to State and Local tax matters, such as notices and data gathering.
• Identify and implement process improvements for tax processes.
• Assist with direct tax compliance and other related projects.
• Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge in tax matters.

• Understanding of state sales/use tax fundamentals, including nexus and SaaS taxability.
• Experience with enterprise software like Oracle Cloud, Vertex Cloud, and Vertex Returns.
• Knowledge of research databases.
• Experience with 1099 compliance and handling B Notices.
• Ability to develop and record journal entries.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite tools.
• Strong math skills and computer proficiency.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
