Job summary

BDO USA, LLP in Houston, TX seeks a Tax Senior to assist Core Tax Services with research, planning, and tax return preparation under supervision. You will review work, ensure quality, and collaborate with associates to meet deadlines.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in accounting or related fields; a Master’s in Taxation preferred, and 2+ years of tax experience. CPA/EA preferred. Proficiency with MS Office and tax software is expected.

Qualifications

• Two (2) or more years of tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, preferred
• Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty, preferred
• Prior basic supervisory experience, preferred
• CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice) or EA preferred

Responsibilities

• Tax Compliance: ensure client compliance and minimize tax burdens while following firm policies
• Manage projects by planning tax process and procedures with quality
• Answer preparer questions and coordinate engagement from onset
• Conduct detailed reviews on returns and notes for preparers; raise potential tax issues
• Meet internal deadlines for timely service delivery
• Identify book-to-tax differences
• Research: identify when research is needed; frame issues; report analysis
• Apply Firm standards for WTA and tax returns
• ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: apply Firm policies; prepare provision workpapers; discuss with team
• Discuss uncertain positions with team; prepare footnote disclosures
• Tax Consulting: develop and implement methods to maximize client benefits
• Identify consulting opportunities to reduce client's tax liability
• Support client consulting projects; gather information for controversy work
• Document significant tax positions with memos and proper filing
• Strategy Development: develop new ideas to improve client position or Firm efficiency
• Prepare studies of tax implications and offer alternatives
• Other duties as required
