Job summary

A leading software provider for the public sector is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant. This role is pivotal for managing income tax accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. You will oversee preparation of tax provisions, reconcile tax accounts, and prepare various tax filings. Job description

The Senior Tax Accountant will play a key role in income tax accounting and financial reporting, compliance, research and planning, and taxing authority exams, as well as drive process improvements and automation projects.

As a part of Tyler’s corporate staff, you will make an impact on outcomes that affect various areas of the company. Your work will ultimately support our team members, clients, stakeholders, and the public sector.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly and year‑end income tax provision.
  • Prepare income tax account reconciliations.
  • Review various federal and state income tax returns.
  • Process estimated federal and state income tax payments.
  • Prepare work papers for various book‑to‑tax differences.
  • Coordinate outsourced tax preparation work.
  • Prepare/Review other tax filings and account reconciliations: Sales and Use Tax, Canadian GST, Property Tax, Business Licenses, etc.
  • Assist in responding to notices and audit information requests from federal, state and local authorities.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in the tax area.
  • Respond to internal requests for tax information.
  • Assist with other accounting and financial planning and analysis projects.
  • Other tax projects as they arise.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or two to four years’ related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Combination of public accounting and industry experience is preferable.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables when limited standardization exists, and to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP, SEC and Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency.
  • Experience with D365, Board, Alteryx, Doclink, Epicor and Softrax helpful.
  • Experience with ONESOURCE tax suite helpful.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to maintain a positive, professional attitude.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
  • Keen attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective analytical skills.
  • Experience working for a publicly traded company is helpful.
