Job summary

Teck seeks a Senior Engineer, Tailings & Closure to serve as the RTFE for facilities across the U.S. portfolio, with primary responsibility at the Pend Oreille Mine in northeast Washington. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with periodic travel to sites.

The successful candidate will bring a strong geotechnical background and 10+ years in tailings or related fields, leading multidisciplinary teams and engaging with external consultants to ensure safe, compliant closure outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in geotechnical/environmental/mining engineering with related specialization.
• 10+ years in geotechnical, tailings, environmental, or mining engineering.
• Experience supporting tailings facilities transitioning to closure.
• Geotechnical data analysis, surveillance, and monitoring experience.
• Experience leading external consultants and contractors.
• Understanding of tailings governance and dam safety practices.
• Knowledge of US regulatory requirements (OSHA, CERCLA, RCRA).

Responsibilities

• Be safety leader and ensure compliance with safety/environmental rules.
• Act as RTFE for tailings facilities across the U.S., with primary responsibility for Pend Oreille Mine.
• Lead closure design strategies and dam safety management for Pend Oreille Mine.
• Provide technical leadership for tailings and water-retaining structures.
• Lead dam safety inspections and governance reviews; drive closure actions.
• Prioritize recommendations from inspections and audits; integrate into closure planning.
• Ensure OMS docs and training for closure-stage facilities.
• Support management of closed tailings facilities across the U.S. portfolio.
• Prepare technical/regulatory/internal reports and maintain clear communication.
• Manage contractors/consultants, including scoping, budgeting, oversight, safety, QC.
• Identify and document tailings/environmental risks; maintain risk registers.
• Collaborate with environment, water management, regulatory affairs, and governance teams.
• Stay current with industry best practices and regulations.
