Ambient Enterprises in Southern California seeks a Senior TAB & Building Performance Specialist to join our technical services team. This role goes beyond TAB, involving advanced HVAC diagnostics, building optimization, commissioning support, and critical environment testing.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in TAB HVAC service, building controls, commissioning, or building performance.
  • Associates/Bachelors or trade training in HVAC or related field.
  • NEBB TAB Technician certification preferred; willingness to obtain.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, air distribution, controls, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TAB on HVAC airside and hydronic systems; verify airflow, pressures, temperatures, and pump performance.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC, controls, and airflow issues; identify root causes and recommend actions.
  • Support laboratory airflow verification, fume hood testing, and critical environment testing.
  • Collect field data and produce clear reports; communicate findings to clients and engineers.
  • Interact with owners, engineers, and contractors; develop long-term relationships.

Job Description

Senior TAB & Building Performance Specialist DMG Corporation is seeking a Senior TAB & Building Performance Specialist to join our growing technical services team in Southern California. This position goes beyond traditional Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) and provides an opportunity to work on advanced HVAC diagnostics, critical environment testing, building optimization, commissioning support, laboratory airflow verification, and owner-direct building performance projects. We are looking for an experienced HVAC professional who enjoys solving difficult building problems, working directly with facility owners, engineers, and contractors, and helping clients improve the performance of their buildings. Our projects include universities, laboratories, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, critical environments, and other complex mechanical systems throughout Southern California.

Key Responsibilities
  • Testing, Adjusting & Balancing
    • Perform TAB services on HVAC airside and hydronic systems.
    • Measure and verify airflow, pressure relationships, temperatures, pump performance, and system operation.
    • Verify compliance with design intent, owner requirements, and industry standards.
  • Building Performance & Diagnostics
    • Troubleshoot complex HVAC, controls, and airflow issues.
    • Assist facility owners in identifying root causes of comfort, airflow, pressure relationship, and energy performance issues.
    • Support advanced TAB, recommissioning, and building optimization projects.
    • Evaluate system performance and develop practical recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Laboratory & Critical Environment Services
    • Perform laboratory airflow verification and certification services.
    • Support fume hood testing and certification programs.
    • Verify room pressure relationships and critical environment performance.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Collect and manage field data.
    • Prepare clear, concise, and professional reports.
    • Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, engineers, contractors, and facility personnel.
  • Client Interaction
    • Serve as a trusted technical resource for owners, engineers, and contractors.
    • Participate in project meetings and presentations.
    • Build long-term customer relationships through technical expertise and professionalism.
Qualifications
  • Preferred Experience
    • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB) HVAC Service Building Controls Commissioning Building Performance Critical Environment Testing Facility Operations.
  • Education
    • Associate degree in HVAC, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, Building Automation, or a related technical field.
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
    • Trade school or technical training in HVAC, controls, or mechanical systems.
    • Military technical training and experience.
    • Equivalent combination of education, certification, and relevant field experience.

Note: Extensive TAB, HVAC service, commissioning, controls, building performance, or critical environment experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, air distribution systems, hydronic systems, controls, and system troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of VAV systems, fans, pumps, terminal units, control valves, sensors, and building automation systems.
  • Ability to diagnose system performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
Certifications
  • NEBB TAB Technician Certification strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with AABC certification or equivalent TAB experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful candidates who do not currently hold NEBB certification must demonstrate the ability and willingness to obtain NEBB TAB Technician certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.

Travel Requirements
