Job summary

Focused Energy seeks a Senior Systems Safety Engineer for its Austin facility to partner with engineering and operations on risk assessment throughout design, installation, validation, commissioning and operation.

You will lead hazard analyses (HAZID, FMEA, JHA) for laser, electrical, cryogenic, and mechanical systems, translating findings into practical interlocks, procedures, and safety controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years in a systems safety or engineering safety role in high-risk or regulated environments.
• Experience performing structured hazard analyses and translating findings into controls.

Responsibilities

• Act as the engineering safety partner for the Austin site across design, installation, validation and operation.
• Lead hazard analyses (HAZID, FMEA, JHA, what-if reviews) for laser, electrical, cryogenic, and mechanical systems.
• Review designs to ensure safety is integrated early and translated into interlocks and procedures.
• Provide hands-on safety support during installation, commissioning, and readiness reviews.
• Develop and maintain risk assessments, safety reviews, and operating constraints.
