The role requires advanced PLC/HMI experience, multiple programming languages, and travel 25–35% with a focus on safety and industry standards, including NERC CIP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in electrical control systems and automation.
  • Proficient PLC programming and HMI design across multiple languages.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols and substation tech.

Responsibilities

  • Review schematics and documentation, mentoring junior team members.
  • Design and integrate PLC/HMI for renewable automation applications.
  • Integrate substation devices and protective relays with networks.
  • Lead testing, refine control systems, and troubleshoot field issues.
  • Oversee on-site commissioning, installation, and network troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for project success.
  • Help team learn new technologies and adhere to safety standards.

Job description

The Opportunity

The Senior Systems Integrator designs, develops, and commissions complex electrical control systems with a focus on integrating PLC and HMI systems for efficient operation and communication. Senior systems integrators maintain project schedules and ensure the quality of project deliverables, mentoring and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure system compatibility and enhance substation efficiency.

What You’ll Do
  • Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and other project documentation, providing learning opportunities for junior team members.
  • Design and integrate PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems for renewable energy automation applications while mentoring junior team members.
  • Integrate complex substation systems and devices, including protective relays, RTACs, and communication networks.
  • Lead testing and mentor junior team members to troubleshoot electrical control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Oversee on‑site field commissioning activities, including system installation, device power‑up, and network troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Assist team members in obtaining up-to-date knowledge and ensure adherence to relevant industry standards and safety regulations, including NERC CIP.
  • Help others learn and understand new technologies and programming techniques.
  • Lead complex technical and multidisciplinary projects.
What We Expect From You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Advanced experience applying electrical systems, control systems, and automation concepts.
  • Advanced experience with PLC programming and HMI design in multiple programming languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text).
  • Advanced experience designing and/or troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
  • Advanced experience interpreting electrical schematics, including single‑line diagrams and P&C drawings.
  • Advanced experience with HMI design, development, and commissioning.
  • Proven application of complex automation, integration, and system protection principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong ability to mentor others in a technical field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced experience with more than one PLC platform (e.g., Schneider Electric, SEL RTAC, Allen Bradley).
  • Advanced experience in Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform.
  • Advanced understanding of common industrial communications protocols including ModbusTCP and/or DNP3.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3‑phase power generation control principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of implementing Automatic Voltage Regulation schemes, including setpoint, power factor, and voltage control.
  • Advanced ability to read, interpret, and implement Power Purchase Agreements and LGIAs and translate them into control schemes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of voltage regulation concepts and ISO specific requirements.
  • Willingness to travel 25–35% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and related technologies.
  • Strong understanding and proven application of electrical schematics.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity in industrial control systems.
  • Strong experience tuning PID control loops.

Target Base Compensation Range: $134,300 – $181,800. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job‑specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role, and comparison to other employees already in this role.
