Ulteig Engineers, Inc. seeks a Lead SCADA Engineer to design, program, install and test automation systems for renewable and power utility clients.

You will develop logic for complex applications and shepherd projects from design through commissioning, ensuring regulatory compliance and high quality outcomes. You will manage design packages, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, travel up to 15–20% and mentor junior engineers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required plus ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
  • PE license required for professional practice.
  • 7–9+ years of relevant experience in SCADA/automation engineering.
  • Proficiency with DNP3, Modbus and related networks and internet architectures.
  • Networking/IT knowledge; CCNA or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access for documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Create SCADA point lists, RTU programs, and HMIs.
  • Program, install, troubleshoot, test, and commission RTUs, PACs, and HMIs for renewable and power utility clients.
  • Develop complete design packages for site networks and SCADA communication architectures.
  • Maintain positive client relationships with frequent internal and external interaction.
  • Work with RTU: SEL-RTAC, Novatech OrionLX+; HMI: Web GUI tools; Ignition a plus.

Job description

Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lead SCADA Engineer working in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The Lead SCADA Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, installing, and testing automation systems that bring together multiple sub-systems to meet the operational and regulatory needs of the owner. The Lead SCADA Engineer will be able to develop and implement logic for complex custom applications.

What You'll Do
  • Create SCADA point lists, remote terminal unit (RTU) programs, human-machine interfaces (HMI’s)
  • Program, install, troubleshoot, test, and commission Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC’s) & Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s) for renewable and power utility clients
  • Develop complete design packages for site network and SCADA communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains positive client relationships, responsive both internally and externally, very frequent client interaction
  • Typically perform work with the following technologies and platforms:
  • Remote Terminal Unit: SEL-RTAC, Novatech OrionLX+
  • HMI: Web-based GUI’s (Inkscape, SEL Diagram Builder). Ignition is a plus
What We Expect from You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required. ABET-accredited program or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • 7-9+ years of relevant experience is required
  • Demonstrates proficiency and working knowledge of communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus, etc.) and internet network architectures.
  • Network design experience and implementation, networking/IT certifications like Cisco Certified Network Associate a plus
  • Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Applies current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks
  • Develops plans, specifications, and observation reports to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practice
  • Practices efficiency engineering as it pertains to design selection
  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality
  • Works closely with engineering technicians and experienced electrical engineers
  • Performs detailed engineering design and evaluations within specialty
  • Takes ownership of quality
  • Coaches and mentors others
  • Responsible for completing tasks and projects in the allotted time
  • Understands actual time required for most tasks and helps develop the project schedule
  • Prepares reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects
  • May participate in marketing, sales, and business development activities within an assigned market
  • Demonstrates a wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Willing to travel 15-20% of the year
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with clients to ensure we are meeting their needs
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain prior to starting date
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the US

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $120,800-$163,500*
