Job summary

UWM in Michigan is seeking a Systems Engineer to define and implement enterprise policies around Windows Server and VMware, supporting virtualization, storage, backup, and automation with a team.

The role requires 4+ years IT, 2+ years in a systems engineering role, strong AD/PKI experience, VMware expertise, and PowerShell or Bash scripting. Excellent communication is essential for success.

Qualifications

• 4+ years IT experience in enterprise environments.
• 2+ years in a dedicated systems engineering role.
• Windows Server and enterprise storage knowledge.
• Active Directory (Certificates/DHCP/DNS/GPO) experience.
• VMware experience with PKS/SRM/VRA specialization.
• PowerShell or Bash proficiency.
• Policy, procedure and standards documentation experience.
• Strong verbal and non- verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Define policies, procedures and standards for Windows Server infrastructure.
• Maintain VMware ESX and Horizon View environments.
• Schedule installations and upgrades per IT policies.
• Monitor performance and retune across locations.
• Develop disaster recovery strategies and business continuity plans.
• Provision server storage following industry best practices.
• Provide status reports to stakeholders on progress.
• Automate tasks with PowerShell, JAMS, and/or Puppet.
• Recommend improvements in virtualization, AD, storage, and automation.
• Act as escalation point for server and systems incidents.
• Assist with project implementations and other IT tasks.
• Participate in rotating on-call coverage as needed.
