Job summary

Serco is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Navy through the Next Generation Attack Submarine Program Office at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. The role focuses on enhancing warfighting readiness and submarine system performance.

Responsibilities include leading a technical team, translating requirements into specs, contributing to cost estimates and T&E planning, and performing risk and cybersecurity activities to ensure system interoperability and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance and ability to maintain it.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Physics, CS).
  • Six years of combined Navy submarine systems design, testing, or operations experience.
  • Strong systems engineering foundation and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Teams, and MS SharePoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

Position Description & Qualifications

As the Senior Systems Engineer, you will support an active contract with the U.S. Navy, teaming with the U.S. Navy’s Next Generation Attack Submarine Program Office at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. Your work will enhance the warfighting readiness of the U.S. Navy and its sailors.

In This Role, You Will
  • Assist in the design, management and optimization of complex U.S. Submarine systems to meet client needs.
  • Lead and collaborate with a talented technical team, managing day‑to‑day efforts.
  • Support systems design and requirements management efforts.
  • Translate high‑level platform requirements into system specifications.
  • Assist in cost estimation and budget analysis; contribute to test and evaluation (T&E) planning and execution.
  • Engage in cybersecurity assessments and engineering initiatives.
  • Build and maintain enterprise architecture frameworks.
  • Facilitate system integration and interoperability tasks.
  • Perform risk management and reliability analysis.
  • Assist in communications and reporting for stakeholders.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
  • An active or current DoD Secret Clearance and the ability to maintain it.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Computer Science).
  • Six (6) years of combined experience/knowledge in:
    • U.S. Navy Submarine systems design, testing, and/or operations.
    • Systems engineering or a related discipline supporting U.S. Navy Submarine programs or other complex technical projects.
    • Strong foundation in systems engineering principles.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    • An analytical mindset.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Teams, and MS SharePoint.
    • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Additional Desired Experience And Skills
  • Active‑duty experience aboard an operational U.S. Submarine.
  • Five (5) years of experience supporting technical and/or defense industry.
  • Programmatic experience managing complex Navy projects with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Any experience supporting Navy acquisition programs.
  • A technical master’s degree is desirable.
