Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years designing and implementing complex computer networks.
• Knowledge of automotive Ethernet technologies, TCP/IP, SOME/IP, and networking stacks.
• Experience with software development lifecycle, testing, and debugging.
• Experience with real-time OS, embedded software architectures, and AUTOSAR.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop in-vehicle Ethernet systems including topology and protocols across OSI layers.
• Develop and maintain toolchain for automated network configuration design and artifacts.
• Expand and verify network bench for early validation and performance tracking.

The Role

We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate to join our team in our journey of defining and executing the backbone of our company's future—the next generation Vehicle Electrical and Software Architecture.

The Mechatronics Infrastructure organization is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who will work on development and validation of the in-vehicle Ethernet network. The role will focus in particular on systems engineering areas that are in the midst of transformation, with key examples being design automation tools and machine-readable network configuration artifacts, expanding our network verification bench.

The role will also include the advancement of our networking solutions and protocols required for our next-generation architectures, as well as close collaboration with stakeholders across the hardware and software organizations.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

• Design and develop in-vehicle Ethernet systems, including network architecture, topology, and communication protocols across all networking layers of the OSI model.
• Develop and maintain toolchain for automated design of network configurations. As communications infrastructure functionality is enhanced, develop and implement algorithms to continue enabling automated generation of network configuration artifacts.
• Develop and expand our network verification bench, for early validation and tracking of network performance.
• Perform extensive functional and temporal evaluation of key networking protocols and solutions like gPTP, redundant gPTP, traffic shaping, and redundant communication.
• Develop behavioral technical specifications (BTS) for existing and new in-vehicle communications functionality.
• Evaluate new hardware and software solutions to support technology insertion into next-generation architectures. Examples include, but are not limited to, Differentiated Services in 10BASE-T1S networks, networking IP in MCUs/SoCs, and new RCP (Open Alliance TC18) solutions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience planning, designing, and implementing complex computer networks.
• Knowledge of computer networking protocols, network architecture, and communication standards, including automotive Ethernet technologies and networking stacks like TCP/IP and SOME/IP.
• Knowledge of and experience with software development lifecycle and testing methodologies, network trouble-shooting. simulation and analysis tools, and programming languages.
• Knowledge of and experience with real-time operating systems, embedded software architectures, and AUTOSAR.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• Advanced knowledge of the internals of the data-link layer components (for example, switch internals and communication software stack).
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) solution (for example, time synchronization and traffic prioritization/shaping).
• Knowledge and end-to-end awareness of the hardware and software components (PHYs, switches, hardware interfaces, connectors, cables, software stack, protocols) that make up a network in the automotive domain. Advanced knowledge of internals of Ethernet switch behavior.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}. Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
