Job summary

Chalk is building a data platform powering the future of machine learning applications. We are hiring Software Engineers to join our team in-person as early employees, tackling challenging engineering problems with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.

We seek a software engineer with a strong systems background, working on DBMS query planning & optimization, compilers, and distributed analytics. Chalk uses Python-based data flows to optimize arbitrary Python code and infrastructure

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience with distributed systems and compilers.
• Experience with Rust, C++, and Python.
• Ability to take ownership and work autonomously.
• Background in data infrastructure.
• Willingness to work in-office five days a week.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, ship, and maintain components of the query planning and execution engine.
• Write C++, Python and Rust.
• Iterate rapidly to improve Chalk’s platform based on customer needs.
• Work directly with Chalk’s co-founders.
