Job summary

Raytheon is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – RF SATCOM to support a large RF satellite communications system in a real‑time environment at the San Miguel site in California. The role requires an active TS/SCI CI Poly clearance and hands-on maintenance, fault analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration with factories and teams.

The ideal candidate has a STEM degree with 5+ years in SATCOM, high‑speed networks, and real‑time software, plus adherence to safety and security policies.

Qualifications

• Experience with SATCOM/Receive Facility antennas and associated hardware.

Job Title

Senior Systems Engineer – RF SATCOM

Location

US-CA-SAN MIGUEL-18000-CUST ~ 18000 E Perimeter Rd ~ BLDG 126 (External Site). Near Paso Robles, California.

Security Clearance

Active and transferable U.S. government‑issued TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly required prior to start date.

Responsibilities

• Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support to a large, integrated, complex Hardware‑Software communications system in a real‑time environment.
• Discrepancy report work‑off and problem resolution, O&M training/mentoring, trending and analysis, procedure development, data collection, fault isolation, and performing real‑time manual actions to restore system capabilities.
• Preventive and corrective maintenance support across multiple external interfaces over an extensive multi‑tiered network.
• Work closely with delivering factories to provide support to development activities, installation efforts, and special test configurations.
• Contribute to the development of new creative and complex concepts that will provide value to the customer.
• Report and document anomalous performance and interact with other team members to validate operational requirements performance.
• Cross‑train in other operational positions as assigned and assist with the training of other personnel.
• Develop and maintain troubleshooting/recovery plans and implement associated management and customer briefs.
• Develop and maintain an active training plan for associated systems.
• Support test activities and/or operational requirements as necessary.
• Problem‑solving in time‑critical situations.
• Corrective maintenance actions requiring removal/replacement, repair, and testing of failed hardware.
• Perform maintenance activities that include climbing multiple sets of stairs, ladders, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs, working in non‑environment‑controlled spaces, and working at elevated heights.
• 4 by 10 weekday schedule, 0530 – 1530 with periodic after‑hour and/or weekend support.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typical requirement: Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) with a minimum of 5 years of prior engineering experience or equivalent experience.
• Experience in SATCOM/Receive Facility communication antennas and associated transmit and receive hardware systems, including knowledge of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum/link/network analyzers, power meters and signal generation equipment.
• Experience with customer‑built and commercial off‑the‑shelf high‑speed networks, IT systems and real‑time software applications supporting communications systems.
• Experience adhering to administrative, safety and security policies.
• Active and transferable TS/SCI CI Poly U.S. government‑issued security clearance required prior to start date.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Knowledge and experience with facility support systems for RF ground terminal systems (power, HVAC, etc.).
• Prior military electronics and/or satellite communications training or experience.
• IT experience (LAN, WAN, Cisco with certification).
• Experience with Communications Security (COMSEC).
• Experience collaborating with internal and external customers in a team environment (Government, Military, SETA, and Contractor).
• Experience conveying complex technical issues through oral and written communication.
