Job summary

Applied Signal Technology (AST) is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead systems engineering across products and programs. You will work with customers, management, and cross-functional teams to translate objectives into robust hardware and software solutions onsite in Salt Lake City.

You will guide concept development, testing, and integration while engaging with customers to define scope and drive successful outcomes, leveraging your RF and antenna systems expertise and a Top Secret

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • 8 years of practical experience in Systems Engineering including design, development and testing of complex hardware and software systems.
  • Extensive Systems Engineering experience in RF and/or antenna systems development.
  • Experience with high capacity RF signal tracking systems, multi-antenna systems.
  • Experience identifying and resolving problems across the system lifecycle.
  • Experience with systems integration, test execution, and test documentation.
  • Experience interacting with development teams to resolve discrepancies and issues.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government Top Secret security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is required.

What You Will Do
  • Lead and consult on various products and programs, provide systems engineering on both new and existing products, and develop and propose new concepts and solutions to our customers.
  • Be hands-on and work closely with our customers, senior management, program managers, and cross discipline technical staff to thoroughly understand customer objectives and then to develop solutions.
  • Work on or lead Research and Development projects that extend into advanced technology exploration.
  • Engage in engineering functions such as concept development, engineering design, integration and evaluation, and operations and maintenance of various systems or systems of systems.
  • Have extensive early and continuing interaction with customers to define solutions, project scope and then act as a liaison for the customer within the company.
Qualifications You Must Have

  • Experience interacting with development teams to resolve discrepancies and issues
  • Experience working with customers, end users, hardware design teams, and software design teams
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret (TS) security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience formalizing, developing, and writing requirements, plans, and procedures based on customer discussions, briefings, interactions, and statements of work
  • Experience with Fiber Optics, RF or Telecommunications standards and processing techniques
  • Experience with Design, Development, Integration and Test of complex Communication systems
  • Experience developing system level designs and data interfaces
  • Experience developing high speed processing hardware or complex control software
  • Understanding of telecommunications systems concepts and signal processing fundamentals.
  • Experience with bid and proposal activities related to system development
  • Experience recognizing areas of improvement or customer needs and relaying them to senior staff as business development possibilities
  • Experience with scripting languages, such as Python or Bash
  • Experience developing training courses and training others
  • Existing Top Secret SCI with polygraph

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
