Job summary

Prattwhitney is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – RF SATCOM near Paso Robles, California, with 5+ years in engineering and strong SATCOM experience. The role covers real-time O&M, fault isolation, and cross‑functional support across complex hardware‑software systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior engineering experience or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in SATCOM / Receive Facility communication antennas and associated transmit and receive hardware system, including knowledge of various test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum/link/network analyzers, power meters, and signal generation equipment.
  • Experience with Customer-built and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) based high-speed networks, IT systems, and real-time software applications supporting communication systems.
  • Experience adhering to administrative, safety and security policies.
  • Active and transferable TS/SCI CI Poly U.S. government-issued security clearance required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required clearance.

Responsibilities

Senior Systems Engineer – RF SATCOM
Location

Near Paso Robles, California

Schedule

4 by 10 weekday schedule, 0530 – 1530 with periodic after-hour and/or weekend support.

What You Will Do

The primary responsibilities include Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support to a large, integrated, complex Hardware‑Software communications systems in a real‑time environment. Discrepancy reporting, problem resolution, O&M training/mentoring, trending and analysis, procedure development, data collection, fault isolation, and performing real‑time manual actions to restore system capabilities. Preventive and corrective maintenance support across multiple external interfaces over an extensive multi‑tiered network. Working closely with delivering factories to provide support to development activities, installation efforts, and special test configurations. Contributing to the development of new creative and complex concepts that will provide value to the customer. Reporting and documenting anomalous performance and validating operational requirements performance. Cross‑training in other operational positions as assigned and assisting with training of other personnel. Developing troubleshooting/recovery plans and implementing associated management and customer briefs. Maintaining an active training plan for associated systems. Supporting test activities and/or operational requirements as necessary. Problem‑solving in time‑critical situations. Corrective maintenance actions requiring removal, replacement, repair, and testing of failed hardware. Performance of maintenance activities will include climbing multiple sets of stairs, ladders, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, working in non‑environment‑controlled spaces, and working at elevated heights.

Experience with Customer‑built and Commercial Off‑the‑Shelf (COTS) based high‑speed networks, IT systems, and real‑time software applications supporting communication systems.

Preferred: Knowledge and experience with facility support systems for RF ground terminal systems (power, HVAC, etc.), prior military electronics and/or satellite communications training/experience, IT experience (LAN, WAN, Cisco with certification), experience with Communications Security (COMSEC), experience collaborating with internal and external customers in a team environment (Government, Military, SETA, and Contractor), experience conveying complex technical issues through oral and written communication.
