Job summary

Senior Systems Engineer – Satellite Mission Engineering Team (ME)

Location: Alexandria, Virginia

Responsibilities

• Create and implement daily operation plans using complex software and hardware systems.
• Apply command and control tasks and activities.
• Obtain and maintain technical knowledge of a large repository of formal procedures and accurately select and apply correct procedures based on scenario.
• Obtain/apply technical knowledge on various hardware subsystems.
• Document discrepancies as they occur.
• Implement workarounds and contingency plans to minimize impacts of system anomalies.
• Contribute to testing, readiness, training, and implementation of new ground software deliveries.
• Cross‑train in other operator positions as assigned and assist with training of other personnel on the contract team.
• Lead interactions and support all missions, including initialization of new missions.
• Work program level priorities to implement process improvements relevant to the mission supported.
• Periodic travel to interact with personnel from various sites and factories.
• Work in an adaptable small team environment (3–7 people).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred). Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience or equivalent.
• Training and certification in operational position.
• Active and transferable TS/SCI CI Poly U.S. government‑issued security clearance required prior to start date.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a virtual team environment.
• Proficient use of Windows and UNIX platforms.
• Experience with Perl, Python, VBA, and/or other scripting languages.
• Experience using the Microsoft Office suite.

Working Conditions

• Availability to work overtime, non‑scheduled call‑in work, and combination of day staff and shift schedules.
• Participation in a 24/7 operations environment.
