Job summary

Onto Innovation is hiring a Systems Engineer 3 in Wilmington, MA to independently support, maintain, and develop advanced optical inspection and metrology platforms for the semiconductor industry. The role spans hardware-software integration, configurations, and customer engagements.

The candidate should have a physics/engineering background and 5+ years in high-precision optical equipment, with travel up to 20% and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in high-precision optical or semiconductor capital equipment.
• Experience in cross-functional environments supporting product development, manufacturing, or field operations.
• Knowledge of optical inspection, metrology, spectroscopy, ellipsometry, and reflectometry is a plus.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%).

Responsibilities

• Integrate hardware subsystems with software to enable product functionality.
• Qualify new product configurations with emphasis on performance and reliability.
• Assess health and performance of installed systems in labs and customers.
• Maintain and support engineering and applications systems; diagnose issues.
• Communicate status updates and findings to stakeholders and customers.
• Contribute to optical inspection/metrology projects across teams.
• Document alignment, calibration, and repair procedures.
• Travel to customer locations domestically/internationally (~20%).
