Job summary

NGEN is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead and support complex client IT infrastructures. You will design, deploy, and optimize secure, scalable technology solutions across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

The role combines hands-on engineering with mentoring of junior staff, working closely with the Head of Technology & Security to advance security, operations, and modernization agendas.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on IT experience, including at least 2 years in a Systems Administrator or equivalent role.
• Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience deploying and supporting Microsoft 365 security features (Conditional Access, MFA, Defender, etc.).
• Expertise with Microsoft Intune for endpoint management, compliance, and device security.
• Experience managing on-premises and hybrid Active Directory environments.
• Advanced experience with Windows Server and Windows 11 administration.
• Familiarity with firewalls (SonicWall preferred).
• Experience with Ubiquiti UniFi or similar network solutions.
• Experience with DNS, DHCP, VPN connectivity, and core networking concepts.
• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting to automate tasks.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal, written, and customer-facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical implementations for infrastructure, cloud, security, and modernization projects.
• Provide senior technical guidance and mentorship to engineers (Tier 3).
• Resolve escalations and perform advanced root cause analysis across environments.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts to improve operational efficiency.
• Document client environments, decisions, and procedures to standards.
• Collaborate with leadership to align solutions with security and compliance.
• Participate in after-hours support rotation as needed.
• Promote standardization and best practices across client environments.
