Job summary

NGEN in Lanham, MD seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead complex IT projects, implement and support secure, scalable infrastructure, and mentor junior staff. You will drive cloud, security, and modernization initiatives while ensuring adherence to standards and client requirements.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, documentation, and collaboration with the Head of Technology & Security to meet technical and security objectives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on IT experience including systems admin/engineer roles.
• Expertise with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience deploying Microsoft 365 security features, including Conditional Access, MFA, Defender.
• Expertise with Microsoft Intune for endpoint management and device security.
• Managing on-premises and hybrid Active Directory environments.
• Advanced experience with Windows Server and Windows 11 administration.
• Familiarity with firewalls (SonicWall preferred).
• Experience with DNS, DHCP, VPN, and core networking concepts.
• PowerShell scripting to automate administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical implementations for infrastructure, cloud, security, and modernization projects.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Develop and deploy technology solutions to meet client needs per procedures and best practices.
• Maintain accurate documentation including network and rack diagrams and knowledge base articles.
• Develop and maintain automation solutions and scripts to improve efficiency.
• Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point and mentor Tier 1/2 staff.
• Collaborate with the Head of Operations and project stakeholders.
• Participate in escalation and after-hours support rotation.
