Job summary

Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI) is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer for the NA ALMA program at the NRAO headquarters in Charlottesville, VA. You will lead system engineering across ALMA's Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade, liaising with international partners and guiding documentation and reviews.

This a 3-year term position with ~10% international travel. Requires 10+ years in systems engineering on integrated projects and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• At least 10 years as a systems engineer on integrated projects.
• Experience with requirements capture, verification & validation plans.
• Experience across life cycle phases from design to operations.
• Experience with international teams.
• Experience in high-tech, large-scale infrastructure related to radio astronomy preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Proactive and independent work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and participate in systems engineering across the ALMA WSU program lifecycle.
• Review and communicate system architecture, requirements, subsystem designs, and other technical documents.
• Develop and collaborate on integration, verification, validation plans, interface control documents, and related documents.
• Prepare and execute system reviews and assist in managing subsystem design reviews; serve as a member of the project controls team.
• Guide the systems engineering management processes including configuration management, baselining, change management and document management across international projects.
• Participate in system integration and testing activities.
