Job summary

National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) seeks an ALMA2040 Project Director to lead the North American ALMA2040 project. The role will require scientific leadership, program management, and close interaction with NRAO, AUI, and NSF management to ensure success.

The appointee may be tenured or tenure-track and will split time between ALMA2040 responsibilities and independent research, based at NRAO Headquarters in Charlottesville, VA.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years leading complex scientific or technical projects; 15+ preferred.
• National and international recognition as a scientific leader.
• Proven record of project completion and ALMA/astronomical community knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead the ALMA2040 project across all phases under NA ALMA Director.
• Organize NRAO/NA activities and community engagement for ALMA2040.
• Guide community processes, white papers, and decadal planning.
• Collaborate with international partners to align ALMA2040 vision.
• Coordinate with funding agencies to support the project.
• Provide regular status reports to stakeholders.
