Description

The Library Systems Infrastructure team manages the Library’s compute, storage, and networking across on‑premises and cloud environments. The Linux Development Support Engineer provides senior technical expertise in enterprise Linux systems administration and infrastructure support for the Library's software development lifecycle. Serves as a primary technical resource for development teams, architecting server environments, designing automated deployment workflows, and ensuring reliability and stability of systems supporting custom software and digital library services.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers, developers, and engineers to translate project requirements into infrastructure designs and guide applications from development to production.
• Design and maintain automated deployment workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration platforms.
• Lead performance benchmarking, resource optimization, and documentation for operational reproducibility.
• Plan and execute large‑scale system upgrades, platform migrations, and data migrations while maintaining service continuity.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for infrastructure and architecture‑related decisions.
• Manage network and host‑based firewall, system security practices, intrusion detection and prevention, and enterprise backup and disaster recovery.
• Conduct regular security compliance assessments and drive continuous improvement.
• Leverage monitoring and centralized logging platforms; provide visibility into server and application health.
• Train and mentor staff on system configuration, troubleshooting, and operational procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical capabilities and experience evaluating complex technical issues across diverse environments.
• Deep proficiency with enterprise web application stacks, including web servers, relational databases, application servers, and certificate management.
• Hands‑on experience with Red Enterprise Linux environments across physical servers, virtualized infrastructure, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Experience with scripting, automation tools, configuration management, version control, and container orchestration platforms.
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting tools; familiarity with content management systems, web caching technologies, search indexing platforms, digital library repository systems, and network storage protocols.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
