Job summary

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE) is seeking a Systems Engineer to build and maintain high-performance Linux and Windows environments across development, non-production, and production systems.

You will work with release engineers, developers, and operations teams to ensure availability, reliability and scalable architectures. Ideal candidates have 4+ years of Linux experience, strong automation skills with Puppet/Ansible/Chef, and a track record of delivering resilient systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience
• 4+ years of experience with Linux operating systems (RedHat variants preferred)
• Experience with automation/configuration management using Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or equivalent
• Familiarity with Git, Foreman, Jenkins, or equivalent tooling
• Knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application design
• Understanding of scaling for performance and high availability
• Ability to specify hardware requirements and recommend based on app needs
• Experience leveraging AI tooling to improve work quality and efficiency
• Security and hardening concepts essential
• Strong analytics and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, planning and implementation of server solutions for maximum performance and reliability
• Automate manual tasks using scripting and development
• Investigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needed
• Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage priorities

• Evaluate, test, and integrate new OS versions, drivers, and patches

The Systems Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed Linux and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and assists in configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Systems Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deep technical discourse. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of system tuning and fault-tolerant design principles as used in high-performance, low-latency computing workloads.

Responsibilities

Knowledge And Experience

• 4+ years of experience with Linux operating systems (RedHat variants preferred)
• Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or equivalent
• Familiarity with git, foreman, Jenkins, or equivalent tooling
• Demonstrable knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application design
• Working knowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availability
• Ability to specify hardware requirements and make recommendations based on application needs
• Demonstrable experience leveraging AI tooling to improve work quality and efficiency
• Thorough understanding of core system security & hardening concepts and processes
• Top-tier analytics and problem solving

Preferred Knowledge And Experience

• Experience building and supporting bare-metal enterprise servers such as HPE, DELL, IBM, etc.
• Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMWare, Proxmox, etc)
• Familiarity and experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Tanzu, etc)
• Experience with Linux systems networking protocols and configuration (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, InfiniBand, etc.)
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining low-latency computing ecosystems
